History

G.D. Somani Memorial School is situated in the posh locality of Cuffe Parade, surrounded by the Arabian Sea and plush sky-scrappers, and is near the World Trade Centre. It was established in July 1975 by the well known industrialists and philanthropists of the Somani Group - the late Shri Sarvashri B. D. Somani and G.D. Somani. The entire Somani Group worked together to set up this institution.

The school started with 250 students, and today it has approximately 3000 students. Initially, it was affiliated to the SSC stream of the Maharashtra State Board. However, on requests from many parents of South Mumbai for an ICSE curriculum, our Managing Trustee & Chairman- Shri S.B. Somani, in consultation with eminent educationists and trustees of other ICSE schools, decided to start the current stream of the ICSE Education System. We are a co-educational institute imparting value based education for Pre-school level, then the Primary level.

We have sent our first batch of 119 ICSE students in 2006. 17 got 90% and above, 84 secured distinctions and 35 got 1st class. G.D. Somani Educational Institute caters to the needs of various co-curricular and extra-curricular educational needs of students in South Mumbai. Students not only excel in academics but also in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
